EDUCATION
Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.
NOTE:
At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.
EXPERIENCE:
Significant* experience working as an IT security specialist in at least one of the following areas. Please identify all areas that apply:
• Classified Systems
• IT Security Architecture
• IT Security Risk Management
• IT Security Operations
• Facilities or Emissions Security
• Communications Security (COMSEC)
Significant* experience in providing technical analysis in any area of IT (as identified in experience #1), and providing written recommendations.
*Significant is described as three (3) years’ experience within the last five (5) years.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in computer science, engineering, information technology/management or other disciplines related to the positions duties.
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:
1. ITIL Certification
2. Business Continuity Planning Certification
3. CISA: Certified Information Systems Auditor
4. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
5. Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) in one of the specializations under the Security Administration category as issued by SANS
6. Completion of courses within the COMSEC Custodian Certification Program (CCCP) under Communications Security Establishment (CSE)
ASSET EXPERIENCE:
ASSET EXPERIENCE for Positions in Classified System (including COMSEC):
*Experience in conducting technical research and analysis of cyber threats/vulnerabilities and developing rules for responding to IT security incidents.
*Experience applying the IT Security Directives for the Control of COMSEC Material in the Government of Canada (ITSD-03, 01, 06, ITSG-11) as a COMSEC custodian or departmental COMSEC authority.
*Experience working with Type-1 cryptography devices.
*Experience in the supervision and management of IT analysts.
ASSET EXPERIENCE for Positions in IT Security Risk Management (including SA&A or C&A):
*Experience in conducting technical research and analysis of cyber threats/vulnerabilities and developing rules for responding to IT security incidents.
*Experience applying CSE best practices including but not limited to ITSG-33, ITSG-22 and ITSG-38 in support of GC operations.
*Experience in the development and/or support of an IT security program, including: security awareness, policies, standards, procedures, processes, monitoring, risk management.
*Experience in the completion of Security Assessment and Authorization (SA&A) processes or Certification and Accreditation (C&A) of IT infrastructure.
*Experience developing reference and/or technical architectures for enterprise IT infrastructure services comprising of networks (LAN and WAN), platform (hosting and storage), IT security controls, and core services such as network access, application hosting, virtual desktop, email, VoIP and video.
*Experience in developing and maintaining Cyber Security Policy and Standards.
*Experience in supporting IT Security-related governance committees.
*Experience in developing security performance measurement and reporting frameworks.
*Experience in supporting audit and compliance processes relating to IT Security.
*Experience in the supervision and management of IT analysts.
