You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in civil engineering.
Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with a specialization in civil engineering.
Significant* experience in the field of engineering (e.g. as applied to buildings, light towers, marine structures, roads and power systems) and related civil engineering projects.
* Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience that would be acquired with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience following graduation in civil engineering.
Recent** experience in managing Human Resources (including both administrative and technical staff).
Recent** experience in managing Financial Resources.
** Recent is defined as within the last 5 years and covering a full continuous planning cycle of one year.
Experience in providing advice, guidance and interpretation on a wide range of engineering and technical issues to senior management*** and clients.
*** Senior Management is defined as the individuals at the highest level in an organization i.e. Director, Regional Director, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer, etc.
Experience in Project Management****.
****Project Management is defined as taking a project through the four life cycle phases from initiation to closeout.

Willingness and ability to work overtime often on short notice, as required.
Willingness and ability to travel using various modes of transportation including but not limited to: automobile, boat, plane, helicopter, snowmobile and/or all-terrain vehicle ATV in order to access remote sites throughout the Newfoundland and Labrador Region, as required.
Willingness and ability to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when participating in site visits throughout the Newfoundland and Labrador Region, as required.
