Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to staff various positions in Global Affairs Canada with various tenures (either on an indeterminate basis, casuals, part-time workers, acting appointments or for a specific period of employment).

**Please note that only employees of the federal public service can be appointed for acting opportunities.

A pool of partially qualified and/or fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions within Global Affairs Canada with various language requirements and/or various tenures, according to the positions being staffed.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

ED1 - A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

EX1 - Experience in media monitoring - both print and broadcast news media.

EX2 - Experience in performing media monitoring searches with media monitoring search engines (eg. NewsDesk, Factiva, Eureka).

EX3 - Experience in providing news media coverage to senior management* on complex or sensitive issues.

*Senior management is defined as Director-level and above, or equivalent.

Information on language requirements

KNOWLEDGE:

K1 - Knowledge of the mandate, role and responsibilities of Global Affairs Canada.
K2 - Knowledge of the Canadian news media and current affairs related to Global Affairs Canada.

ABILITY:

AB1 - Ability to summarize media coverage or media products clearly and concisely.
AB2 - Ability to identify and prioritize issues in the news media that are important to Global Affairs Canada.
AB3 - Ability to communicate effectively orally.
AB4 - Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

PERSONAL SUITABILITY:

PS1 - Dependability;
PS2 - Judgement;
PS3 - Effective Interpersonal Relationships.

ASSET EDUCATION:

AED1 - Graduation with a degree from a recognized university and/or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

ASSET EXPERIENCE:

AEX1 - Experience working in communications for the federal government.

AEX2 - Experience liaising with media monitoring contractors or suppliers.

ASSET KNOWLEDGE:

AK1 - Knowledge of International news media

Conditions of employment

Secret Security Clearance.

Must be willing, able and available to work day, evening and overnight on rotating shifts (including statutory holidays): 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Must be willing, able and available to work overtime as needed and on short notice.
