Work environment

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the court. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill one vacancy in Ottawa, Ontario. The pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff similarly classified positions with a similar language profile.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position

Degree equivalency

PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION
Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.

EXPERIENCE
Significant* Experience in managing a security electronics and telecommunications infrastructure program

Experience in providing advice to senior management and stakeholders on security electronics and telecommunications activities and research

Experience in the oversight of procurement and contractual processes related to security electronics and telecommunications

Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams composed of technical staff, consultants and stakeholders

Experience in the development of business strategies and plans, as well as leading its implementation

Significant** experience managing human*** and financial**** resources.

DEFINITIONS
*Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with performance of the duties for a minimum of three years within the past five years.
**Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with performance of the duties for a minimum of three years within the past 10 years.
***Human Resources Management: Applicants must clearly demonstrate that they have managed human resources. Some examples of managing human resources may include: assigning work, managing performance, developing resourcing plans, determining needs and approving training, etc. Applicants must indicate the number of staff they supervised.
****Financial Management: Applicants must show evidence of managing and being accountable for a budget. Some examples of managing financial resources may include: full delegation for a budget, forecasting, planning, budget allocation, reporting, etc. Applicants must also indicate the size of the budget they managed.

EXPERIENCE
Experience participating or leading committees at the International level, with other government departments, provincial and central agencies addressing institutional security electronic and telecommunications engineering program issues and sharing of best practices

Experience planning and directing the conduct of engineering research in the field of security electronics and telecommunications in a high security setting

Experience in providing advice to senior management and stakeholders on security electronics and telecommunications activities and research in a high security setting

Experience in developing procurement documents related to security electronics and telecommunications in a high security setting
