Intent of the process

This process is to fill an indeterminate position in Sydney, N.S. A pool will be created and may be used to staff future vacancies for permanent or temporary positions in Sydney, N.S with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

EDUCATION
Provincial certification at the Journeyman level in the building trades,
Or
Possession of valid Stationary Engineer/Refrigeration ticket,
Or
Successful completion of a building System Technician course.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience in providing operation, technical and maintenance services for office or commercial facilities
Experience in participation on teams for delivery of maintenance management services and operations
Experience in supervision of staff and/or contractors in conducting preventive maintenance

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Red Seal standard for the Plumber trade

Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, repair, upkeep and minor improvements of buildings and related systems
Knowledge of building systems, such as heating ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, civil infrastructure
Knowledge of environmental, fire safety and methods and procedures.
Knowledge of applicable Codes and Regulations

ABILITIES
Ability to develop and plan an implementation schedule for Preventive Maintenance programs
Ability to carry out minor repairs and adjustments to building systems and associated equipment
Ability to manage human resources issues
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to monitor and inspect work by staff and contractors

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
Possession of a valid driver’s licence or mobility usually associated with having a valid driver’s licence.
