Intent of the process

The current intention of this selection process is to create an anticipatory pool to staff positions on an indeterminate/determinate basis. A pool of partially qualified and/or fully qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions within Global Affairs Canada with various language requirements and/or various tenures, according to the positions being staffed.

EDUCATION FOR AS-05 AND AS-06 POSITIONS:

ED1 - Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience approved by the employer.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE FOR AS-05 AND AS-06 POSITIONS:

EX1- Significant experience* managing (planning, organizing, and implementing) international conferences, events or visits to Canada or abroad for high level dignitaries (level of Deputy Minister or senior executive and above).
EX2- Experience working with senior officials from the public or private sectors, or the international community.
EX3- Significant experience* managing project budgets including preparation, monitoring and reporting.

*Significant experience is defined as having performed these tasks over a period of two (2) years.


EXPERIENCE FOR AS-06 POSITIONS:

EX4- Significant experience* supervising or managing a team of employees or coordinating a team of employees, contractors or partners.

*Significant experience is defined as having performed these tasks over a period of three (3) years.

ABILITIES FOR AS-05 AND AS-06 POSITIONS:

AB1- Ability to analyse problems, provide advice and make recommendations to senior management.

EXPERIENCE FOR AS-05 AND AS-06 POSITIONS:

AEX1- Significant and recent experience* managing (planning, organizing, and implementing) visits to Canada of foreign Heads of State or foreign Heads of Government, or national cabinet ministers or Heads of international organizations or outgoing visits of the Governor General or Prime Minister or federal ministers.

*Significant and recent experience is defined as having performed these tasks within the last three (3) years over a period of 24 months.

KNOWLEDGE FOR AS-05 AND AS-06 POSITIONS:


AK1- Knowledge of a foreign language.

AK2- Knowledge of contracting and procurement processes and financial and hospitality policies in the federal public service.

AK3- Knowledge of the requirements pertaining to project management and the planning of major international events and conferences in Canada.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Willingness, ability and availability to work extensive overtime;
- Willingness, ability and availability to travel often for extended periods of time and/or on short notice;
- Willingness, ability and availability to lift heavy objects (suitcases, boxes) and stand for long periods of time.
