Some key activities include :
Coordinates and maintains flight and duty-time tracking records for pilots flying departmental fixed wing aircraft, and training files for Ottawa-based fixed wing pilots. Monitors and contributes to the training and evaluation of fixed wing pilots, to ensure that pilots are qualified and competent to carry out assigned flying duties. Identifies, assesses and reports cases of regulatory non-compliance to the Chief Pilot and the Director, Flight Operations (DFO), and recommends corrective action. Identifies, assesses and reports cases of training difficulties to the Chief Pilot and the Director, Flight Operations (DFO), and recommends corrective action.
Acts as Pilot in Command (PIC) on ASD aircraft when required. Plans and co-ordinates maintenance checks and maintenance test flights for HQ and regional fixed wing aircraft after major overhaul or modifications, to ensure that operational and regulatory requirements are met
Manages the national implementation of the fixed wing Transportation of Dangerous Goods Awareness Training Program, including related training and awareness to ASD Flight Operations staff, to ensure compliance with the Transport of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulationst.
A prequalified pool of candidates may be established which may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with similar linguistic profiles and security requirements.

DEFINITION:
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS are the qualifications required to perform the work. You must meet the below essential qualifications when applying to this position and provide concrete examples in the screening questions to be considered for this position.
Education:
ED1: A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Occupational Certification:
OC1: Possession of a valid Canadian Airline Transportation Pilot License Aeroplane with valid Group 1 Instrument Rating.
OC2: Possession of a valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed aeronautical).
Experience:
EX1: A minimum of 4,000 hours total aircraft flight time experience, including a minimum of 2,000 hours as a pilot-in-command on fixed wing multi-engine turbine aircraft, and 300 hours instrument (150 hours must be actual).
EX2: At least six months experience in the management of aircraft operations.
EX3: Experience as a Training Pilot of an aircraft operation.
EX4: Experience in the development of Operations Manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
EX5: Experience in conducting inspections and investigations.
DEFINITION:

Asset Education:
AED1: Graduation with an acceptable degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Aviation Management or an aviation related field.
Asset Occupational Certification:
AOC1: Certified as a TC Approved Check Pilot (ACP), or eligible for certification by meeting the flight experience required to qualify for an ACP as per Transport Canada’s Approved Check Pilot Manual (TP 6533), section 4.
Asset Experience:
AEX1: Experience with modern avionics and navigation systems (glass cockpit).
AEX2: Experience in the conduct of Risk and Hazard assessments in an aviation environment.

Other conditions of employment that must be met throughout the duration of employment:
-Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
-Successful completion of requirements associated with the issuance of a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC) in order to obtain and maintain it.
-Candidates must be willing and able to work overtime on short notice.
-Candidates must be willing and able to travel by various modes to remote locations, domestically and abroad.
-Candidates must be willing and able to work in an aviation environment (i.e., noise, fumes, and hazards).
