Duties

The Health and Safety Officer promotes and integrates all facets of health and safety into daily activities in the workplace. He/she guides and advises management, employees and health and safety committees in their roles and various challenges. He/she provides OHS training sessions to employees/managers/committees, ensures that the equipment, systems and tools are available in the workplace. He/she develops policies, guidelines and/or procedures to enhance the health and safety program at Library and Archives Canada.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates may be created. Pools may be established to staff other similar positions on a term or indeterminate basis.

Secondary School Diploma.

Degree equivalency

Recent and significant* experience in managing activities related to an occupational health and safety (OHS) program.
Recent and significant* experience in providing OHS advice, guidance and recommendations to various stakeholders.
Experience in researching, analyzing and interpreting OHS policies and legislation.

*Recent and significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience acquired over a one (1) year period within the last three (3) years.

Note: It is not sufficient to have been a member of an OSH Committee.

Experience in delivering OHS training to employees, managers and/or committees.
