WORKING WITH THE INDIAN RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS ADJUDICATION SECRETARIAT (IRSAS)
Who we are: The Independent Assessment Process (IAP) is part of the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement (Settlement Agreement) - the largest class action settlement in Canadian history. The Settlement Agreement aims to bring a fair and lasting resolution to the harm caused by residential schools. The negotiated Settlement Agreement involved representatives of Aboriginal groups, churches, the Government of Canada, and the legal profession. The Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat (IRSAS) is the administrative body that manages the IAP hearing process overseen by a Chief Adjudicator. Being a sunset-funded program, we anticipate that all claims under the IAP should be resolved by spring of 2020.
What we do: The IAP is a claimant-centered adjudication process for former students who have a claim of sexual or serious physical abuse. It provides former students with a way to settle their claim expeditiously, and out of court. The process is designed to be claimant-centered, fair, and neutral.
Choose to be involved: Be part of a dynamic team that is committed and passionate about their work!
Working with the IRSAS allows you to be a part of an organization that helps former residential school students, their families, and their communities.
The IRSAS has many opportunities for personal and professional growth and development. Wellness and work-life balance are priorities and are carefully considered. The desire to bring resolution to former students means you will be part of a dedicated team, who is committed to being part of a historically significant process in Canada.
This process will be used to fill positions on a determinate basis within the Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat Sector. However, it could also be used to fill similar or identical positions within Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC).
