Western Economic Diversification is looking for analysts to join our policy team who have a keen interest in applying economic thinking and intuition, and conducting research and analysis on important western Canadian policy issues. As a subject matter expert and problem-solver, you will need to be nimble, flexible, and responsive in delivering information for diverse requests, spanning a multitude of complex issues. You will be relied upon to provide relevant, timely, and accurate advice to inform senior departmental leaders on key trends shaping Western Canada.
At Western Economic Diversification we help create a diversified western Canadian economy that has strong, competitive and innovative businesses and communities. We promote the development and diversification of the economy to advance the interests of the West in national economic policy, program and project development and implementation.
This process will be used to create a pool of qualified individuals. The pool may be used for deployments, secondments, assignments, and indeterminate, term or acting appointments. The pool may be accessed by organizations in the Core Public Administration.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.
Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Significant* experience in writing analytical documents such as policy papers, background papers, and reports on economic policy issues.
Experience applying data analysis and economic research techniques to the evaluation of policy issues.
Experience preparing briefing material on economic issues for use by decision-makers.
*Significant is defined as a depth and breadth of experience normally associated with a minimum of 3 years of full-time performance of these duties.
Master’s degree from a recognized university in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
Depth, breadth and scope in any one or combination of the experience factors.
Experience working for federal, provincial, territorial or municipal governments.

Knowledge of economic issues related to Alberta and/or Western Canada.
