The Buildings and Renewables Group (BRG) focuses on improving the energy performance and resilience of technologies and systems in the built environment in order to mitigate the impacts of continued reliance on fossil fuels and to promote the uptake of renewable forms of energy.
Under the direction of the Director General of CanmetENERGY-Ottawa, the Director of BRG is responsible for initiating and leading R&D in the areas of housing and buildings, renewable energy technologies and smart communities.
The incumbent achieves these goals by managing a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, research scientists and technicians, coupled with in-house and external laboratory resources to conduct relevant research, demonstration and deployment of innovative technologies and systems. The incumbent works with and fosters relationships with industry, OGDs and academia to develop solutions that will accelerate the adoption of new technologies and systems in the marketplace.
This position is based at the CanmetENERGY laboratory facility in Bells Corners but also involves collaborative activities across several federal sites including NRCan's offices at 580 Booth St., the Canada Center for Housing Technology (CCHT), which is located on the National Research Council's Montreal Road Campus, and NRCan's research laboratories in Varennes, QC.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in an engineering discipline relevant to the duties of the position and eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada.
Experience in managing a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists and administrative professionals in the delivery of energy R&D programs.
Experience in leading integrated strategic planning exercises in the area of clean energy supply, distribution or energy end-use.
Experience using partnerships or networks from both the public and private sector to leverage resources in order to deliver on R&D priorities.
Experience in preparing policy or program discussion papers and recommendations to senior level audiences or stakeholders on subjects related to energy technology innovation.
Experience in leading the development and delivery of collaborative R&D projects including proposals preparation, human and financial resources allocation and project management.
A post graduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field.
Experience in the delivery of projects or programs internationally.
Experience authoring technical articles for technical or scientific journals in the energy-end use or renewable energy field.
Experience chairing standards committees or working groups.
