The position to be staffed is currently in the branch of Human Resources and Workplace Services in Gatineau for an indeterminate duration.
However, if you are found partially or fully qualified you could be considered for similar or identical positions at Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) with various linguistic profiles (French essential, English essential,BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC) and/or requirement as well as tenures (term or indeterminate) and/or the security clearance (reliability or secret), which may vary according to the position being staffed.

EDUCATION:
Graduation from a recognized postsecondary school institution in occupational health and safety or a field related to the duties of the position or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Significant** experience in administering occupational health and safety (OHS) program activities.
Experience in providing training and awareness sessions in occupational health and safety.
Recent* experience in researching on complex occupational health and safety issues, in providing advice guidance and recommendations to different levels of management and/or health and safety committees.
Recent* experience in the interpretation and application of federal or provincial occupational health and safety regulations, standards and industry codes of practice.
* Recent experience is defined as having performed the activities within the past three years.
** Significant experience is defined as having performed a wide range of activities.
NOTE: Experience limited to occupational health and safety Committee membership will not be sufficient.
Bilingual - Imperative (CBC/CBC)
Information on language requirements
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of the Canada Labour Code Part II and of federal regulations governing occupational health and safety.
Knowledge of roles and responsibilities of federal departments and central agencies in the area of occupational health and safety.
Knowledge of the role and functions of workplace health and safety committees.
Knowledge of principles of accident investigation and principles for managing workplace accidents.
ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to develop and present training sessions.
Ability to analyze health and safety related issues and make recommendations.
PERSONAL SUITABILITY:

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Certificate or eligibility for certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional.
Experience in the review and development of federal occupational health and safety operational policies and procedures.
Experience in conducting health and safety inspections and assessments.
Experience in managing complex projects in the occupational health and safety field.
