Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) term position in Delta, BC for two years with possibility of extension. A pool of qualified candidates may be created and may be used to staff similar positions within Environment and Climate Change Canada, with various tenures (Term or Indeterminate), various language requirements and profiles, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

EDUCATION:

Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position.

PRODUCTIVITY AND RECOGNITION:

Productivity or recognition is required for all positions in the Research Scientist sub-group (SE-RES) (Revised October 1, 1999).

Productivity or recognition includes developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community of the research environment. It also refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from:

•Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems;
•Operational research and scientific analysis;
•Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in the analysis of quantitative data using recent multivariate or model selection statistical approaches.

Experience in the design, planning and implementation of research programs related to applied wildlife (animals and fish) ecology.

Experience in writing and publishing peer-reviewed scientific papers in the field of wildlife (animals and fish) ecology.

Experience in conducting analyses based on spatial or spatial-temporal data.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in applying scientific information in support of management decisions.

Experience in processing and analyzing data derived from Geolocator, Global Positioning Systems, and satellite tags.

Experience in processing data in ArcGIS (or an open source equivalent).
