Duties

Main responsibilities associated with the position:
• act as a structural expert in quality control and provide authoritative advice to departmental staff at the Quebec region;
• analyze structural systems condition of crown assets and facilities and ensure budgetary follow-up;
• propose, plan, coordinate and ensure the implementation of seismic restraint and structural corrective measures;
• ensure the respect of all codes and all engineering standards and internal procedures as part of design activities of for quality assurance for projects carried out by consultants.

Intent of the process

One (1) permanent position to staff.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Public Services and Procurement Canada, Quebec Region, whose duration and language requirements (bilingual imperative BBB/BBB, French essential) could vary depending on the position being staffed.

Professional Accreditation :
Canadian certification as an Engineer.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

EXP1 Recent* and significant** experience in the field of structural engineering.

EXP2 Recent* and significant** experience in the field of seismic engineering.

EXP3 Experience in planning, project proposal development, coordination and execution of activities applied to structural engineering for buildings.

Note :
Experience is defined as work-related experience acquired in the identified field following graduation from an undergraduate engineering program in an engineering speciality relevant to the position.

“ Recent* and Significant**” is defined as the depth and breadth of experience (i.e. scope/degree of experience, exposure to various activities or complex cases, level of exposure, etc…) that would be usually acquired in approximately ten (10) years and obtained in the last fifteen (15) years.

Asset Qualifications:
A1 Experience in managing mandates for professional and technical services of varying complexity and scope in building structural engineering.

A2 Significant experience in office building design.


A3 Experience as a structural engineer responsible for large projects.

A6 Recent* experience in employee supervision.
(* acquired experience within the last five years).

Operational requirements :

• Have a driver’s license valid in Quebec.
• Willingness to work occasional overtime on short notice.
• Willingness to travel within Canada from time to time.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Required Conditions of Employment:

• Be a Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec
N.B. Prior to his or her appointment, the successful candidate must be an accredited engineer in the province of Quebec.
