Duties

You will be required to provide administrative and office management services in support of members of the judiciary of the Federal Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Court Martial Appeal Court or the Tax Court of Canada. Tasks include (but are not limited to):

• Responding or anticipating the needs of the judge (or prothonotary) in the preparation and review of decisions, directions, reasons, judgments and orders.

A pool of pre-qualified or fully qualified candidates may be created to staff similar or identical positions with various tenure, various bilingual linguistic profiles and security requirements within the Courts Administration Service.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of a post-secondary school program, certificate or diploma related to the position, such as paralegal studies or legal studies OR an acceptable combination of education, training or experience related to the position.

Definition of “acceptable combination”: Completed post-secondary courses pertinent to paralegal or legal work, and worked in a legal environment for at least 2 years.

Degree equivalency

Significant * and recent* experience as a legal or judicial assistant or judicial secretary.

Experience in preparing (e.g. typing, formatting and editing) and proof-reading legal documents within tight deadlines.

Experience transcribing information from voice recordings, handwritten notes, electronic legal text transmissions or digital audio recordings.

Experience researching information using legal research tools.

Experience working in a legal, judicial or quasi-judicial*** environment.

Experience in using the Microsoft Office Suite software such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

*Significant refers to the breadth and depth of experience and is defined as a combination of time spent doing the activity, as well as type (range, scope, and complexity) of work handled related to the experience criteria.
**Recent is defined as within the last two (2) years.
***Judicial or quasi-judicial environment means a Federal Board, Commission, Tribunal or Court (Federal, Provincial or Municipal).
