Duties

A technician is required at the Saskatoon Research and Development Centre to support a project to create a DNA repository and capture genetic diversity from the plant collections at Plant Gene Resources Canada. The project will use next generation sequencing approaches to capture molecular diversity data from 10,000s of plant lines. The incumbent would carry out DNA extractions, genomic and expression library construction, next generation sequencing, SNP genotyping, and bioinformatics analyses of collated data. The incumbent would be expected to assist with collection of material from both greenhouse and field grown germplasm.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff 1 position for a specific period of up to 4.5 years.

This position is part of a sunset funded program. Therefore, the period of employment will not count in the calculation of the three (3) year cumulative working period for indeterminate employment pursuant to the Treasury Board Secretariat Term Employment Policy.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment for the location indicated for this process.

Graduation with a degree from a recognised post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in plant science, molecular biology, agriculture or computer sciences.

Degree equivalency

Experience in DNA extraction and DNA genotyping.
Experience with DNA sequence analyses (next generation sequencing data).
Experience planning and executing research activities in a molecular biology laboratory.
