Duties

We require a person to work in a Toxicology laboratory on projects related to antimicrobials and hormones in environmental matrices surrounding livestock operations and assessing toxic effects of antimicrobials and hormones on in-vitro assays. Our focus is mainly on antimicrobials, hormones, and their metabolites.

Work would involve:

• Sample collection including manure, feces, manure-amended soils, compost, and waste water from livestock production environment.
• Receiving samples and maintenance of sample inventory.
• Antimicrobial and hormone extraction using accelerated solvent extractor and sonication.
• Analysis of sample extracts using liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
• Data analysis using Xcalibur software.
• Conducting H295R assay using in-vitro cell-lines.
• Visual representation of data.

- 1 full time temporary position for an 18 month duration.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the following fields: Toxicology, Analytical Chemistry, Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Agriculture or a related field.

Degree equivalency

Experience working in a toxicology, analytical chemistry or environmental chemistry laboratory.
Experience extracting organic compounds from complex environmental matrices.
Experience operating and maintaining laboratory instrumentation.
Experience conducting toxicological bioassays.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience extracting antimicrobials, steroidal hormones, brominated compounds, or other compounds for non-targeted screening from various complex environmental matrices.
Experience analyzing compounds (antimicrobials, hormones, brominated compounds) using latest technologies.
Experience operating and maintaining an analytical laboratory and analytical instruments.
Experience conducting in-vitro toxicological bioassay, fish embryo hatching and exposure studies.
Experience conducting laboratory research in a toxicology laboratory, an analytical laboratory or an environmental chemistry laboratory.
Experience with MS Office and analytical software such as Chromeleon, Xcalibur, MassLynx.
Experience creating graphs, tables and figures from data.
Experience generating draft copies of research posters.
