Health Canada, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB), is recruiting a Regional Home and Community Care Coordinator (NU CHN 06) to join our dynamic Regional Nursing Team located at the Regional Office, Canada Place, Edmonton. The NU CHN 06 manages a multi –disciplinary team consisting of nurses, safety officers and administrative support staff in the isolated and semi-isolated Health Centers and Nursing Stations of northern Alberta.
COMMUNITY DESCRIPTION
The Regional Offices are located in downtown Edmonton and are within easy access of St Albert, Leduc, Morinville and Fort Saskatchewan. Edmonton is the capital city of Alberta and has a population of over 1,200,000 people. The First Nation communities within the Treaty 8 (north) areas are in the High Level area which is located approximately 750kms north of Edmonton. Populations in these communities vary from 700 members to greater than 2000 members.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
This position is responsible for coordinating Home and Community Care services for the Region as well providing overall program and development expertise to both First Nations and the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch. This position will also be responsible for maintaining a safe staffing complement with appropriate staff mix; managing budgets, funding arrangements and being fiscally responsible for expenditures. The Regional Home and Community Care Coordinator will be expected to occasionally travel to communities for quality review of practice, performance and program delivery. The maintenance of Cultural Competence and the provision of culturally safe practice are paramount.

The First Nations and Inuit Health Branch at Health Canada support the delivery of public health and health promotion services on reserve and in Inuit communities. It also provides drug, dental and ancillary health services to First Nations and Inuit people regardless of residence.

Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.
*A baccalaureate or higher level degree, as established by educational authorities
Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada.
Recent and significant* experience as a Registered Nurse in the area of practice Community Health Nursing [which includes Home and Community Care, Primary Care and/or Public Health]
Experience managing health programs and/or services
Experience working with and/or building partnerships with health organizations
Experience working with a multi-disciplinary health care team
*Recent and significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the full time performance of duties for a minimum period of 3 years within the last 5 years.
A Master’s Degree in Nursing or a field related to health, such as Community or Health Development, Health Administration/Leadership, or Public Health from a Canadian University or a recognized equivalent
Experience in staffing/recruiting for positions
Experience in managing and being accountable for a budget
Experience working in First Nations communities
