Graduation with a Bachelor of Science degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in biology, biochemistry, microbiology or molecular biology, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
Experience planning, organising and conducting plant biology, plant genetics, microbiology or plant pathology experiments using molecular biology or genomics techniques in the laboratory, greenhouse or field.
English essential
Information on language requirements
Knowledge of plant biology or plant genetics, or microbiology or plant pathology.
Knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as:
• DNA and RNA purification and analysis;
• Gel electrophoresis;
• PCR, reverse transcription-PCR, real-time PCR;
• Plasmid construction, molecular cloning;
• DNA and gene sequencing;
• Western blot, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, protein purification and characterization;
• Gene transformation;
• Plant tissue culture.
Knowledge of data analysis including statistical analysis or basic bioinformatics.
Knowledge of WHIMIS and laboratory safe work practices.

Initiative
Experience in handling plant viruses/viroids, and construction infectious cDNA.
Experience using advanced plant tissue culture techniques.
Experience with basic computer programming/scripting or data handling.
Experience using next generation sequencing.

Knowledge of soil microbiology

Valid driver’s licence.
With appropriate safety precautions in place, able and willing to work in laboratory, greenhouse and field environments for extended periods at a time.
