There are a number of term and/or indeterminate positions that will be staffed both within Fisheries Management and Aquaculture Management in DFO Pacific Region’s offices in Vancouver and Nanaimo.
For the CO-01 positions, the successful candidate will assist with the planning and management of fisheries or aquaculture activities in Pacific Region. The candidate will work with members of the public, Indigenous groups, commercial harvesters, recreational harvesters, aquaculturists, the conservation sector, and other groups to develop plans and address management issues related to Pacific fisheries or aquaculture. With respect to the Aquaculture positions, you may be involved in licensing aquaculture activities, providing analysis and advice on aquaculture management issues, and coordinating stakeholder engagement and governance bodies. For the Fisheries Management positions, you may be assisting with developing fisheries management plans, coordinating meetings with advisory boards, providing analysis and advice on fisheries management issues, and participating in discussions with stakeholders on management issues.
For the CO-02 positions, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing analysis and advice on key fisheries and aquaculture management issues and leading on major initiatives related to sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. The candidate will work directly with Indigenous groups, fishery managers, fisheries harvesters, aquaculturists, and stakeholder groups to implement various policies such as the Sustainable Fisheries Framework, and applying precautionary and ecosystem approaches into fisheries management decisions, promoting sustainable fishing practices to protect sensitive benthic areas, and encouraging the use of selective gear to minimize bycatch. You may also be involved in managing grants and contributions funding to external organizations.
In addition to the locations listed above, the resulting pool may also be used to staff various CO-01 and CO-02 Indeterminate, Term, or Casual positions in various locations across the Pacific Region.
The immediate intent of this process is to staff 5 positions at the CO-01 level and 1 position at the CO-02 level.

Education:
A degree from a recognized university with a specialization in commerce, economics, natural resources management, public administration, environmental studies, biology or other specialization relevant to the position, OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the duties of the position.
Experience (CO-01):
• Experience in formulating and writing reports, correspondence OR communications materials (For example: briefing notes, memorandums, technical reports, letters) for supervisory or managerial level personnel
• Experience in collaborating, consulting OR negotiating directly with Indigenous groups, other governments OR external stakeholders (such as industry, environmental organizations, the general public, the fishing sector, environmental non-governmental organizations communities)
• Experience in working in cross functional teams***
• Experience in analyzing AND synthesizing information
Experience (CO-02):
• Experience in formulating and writing reports, correspondence OR communications materials (For example: briefing notes, memorandums, technical reports, letters) that provide analysis and advice for senior management (For example: director level or above)
• Recent* and Significant** experience in collaborating, consulting OR negotiating directly with Indigenous groups, other governments OR external stakeholders (such as industry, environmental organizations, the general public, the fishing sector, environmental non-governmental organizations communities)
• Recent* and Significant** experience in leading cross functional teams***
*”Recent” is defined as experience accumulated within the past three (3) years for the CO-02 level and within the past five (5) years for the CO-01 level.
**”Significant” is defined as having experience normally acquired with full time performance of the functions for a cumulative period of approximately two (2) years; significant will also be evaluated in terms of the complexity and diversity of work handled.
***”Cross functional teams” is defined as a team of people with different areas of expertise. (For example...science, program management, policy).
Asset Qualifications (CO-01):
• Experience in fisheries OR aquaculture management (such as planning, implementing, reporting OR evaluating activities)
• Field experience in fisheries OR aquaculture activities
• Recent* experience in natural resources management activities
• Experience in the provision of government services to external clients
Asset Qualifications (CO-02):
• Graduation from a recognized university with a Master’s degree with a specialization in: commerce, economics, natural resources management, public administration, environmental studies, biology or other specialization relevant to the position
• Recent* and significant** experience in implementing natural resources management programs OR policies
• Experience in managing funding programs
• Experience in managing human resources
• Experience in fisheries OR aquaculture management (such as planning, implementing, reporting OR evaluating activities)
• Experience in leading discussions in meetings or public forums with competing interest groups such as Indigenous groups, environmental organizations, industry, the general public, the fishing sector, environmental non-governmental organizations, communities and/or other stakeholders
