EDUCATION:
Graduation with a Master’s Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with specialization in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or another discipline relevant to the position, coupled with acceptable experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in scientific research in one or more of the following areas: 1) nuclear physics, 2) solid state physics, 3) particle physics, 4) radiochemistry, 5) radiation detection, 6) nuclear engineering.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of scientific method necessary for the conduct of experiments and field trials.

EDUCATION:

EXPERIENCE (depth and breadth of):
Experience of scientific research in a research and development environment.
Experience in the collection and analysis of radioactive samples.
Experimental design, planning and conduct of field trials and evaluations.
Experience in the development of radiation detectors.
Experience in a wide range of data analysis techniques or numerical methods.
Experience in Authorship and Publication of technical reports or peer-reviewed papers.
Experience in development of project proposals or project management.
Experience in supervising technicians, support personnel or students in projects.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of radioactive sample collection and analysis techniques.
Knowledge of the principles of scientific computer programming.
Knowledge of electronics for radiation detectors.
Knowledge of data analysis techniques and numerical methods.
Knowledge of Canadian Armed Forces Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) Defence program.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be willing and able to work in a field setting (non-laboratory) including in adverse weather conditions.
Must be willing and able to obtain a DND 404 licence.
Must be willing and able to travel for government business several times per year for periods possibly in excess of one week at a time.
Must be able to obtain and retain a Radiation Worker designation.
Must be able and willing to work in full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
Must be willing to work with radiological materials.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Reliability Status security clearance. Must be able to obtain and retain a Secret (Level II) security clearance.
