Work environment

Organization
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the court. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

Mission Statement
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.

Challenge
Candidates must be willing to work in a correctional environment where ongoing contact with federally sentenced inmates will be necessary.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially qualified candidates will be established and may be used to fill similar vacancies of permanent or temporary tenures within Correctional Service Canada in the various locations.

EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma, or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma, or a successful completion of a provincially/territorially approved secondary school equivalency test.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience in intervening with and/or supporting individuals who are working on changing their behaviour.

EDUCATION
Degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Social Sciences or any other area relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience working in a correctional environment (institution or community based).
Experience working with Indigenous organizations or communities.
Experience working with Ethno-cultural (not including Indigenous) organizations or communities.
Experience providing interventions to individuals with mental health needs.
Experience providing interventions to women in conflict with the law.
Experience in developing partnerships with community based organizations.
Experience in developing partnerships with governmental departments (federal and/or provincial).
Experience in the delivery of skills based programs to a vulnerable population.
Experience providing employment services and/or counselling.
