In your cover letter, you MUST use EACH individual criterion of EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE criteria and any of the ASSETS QUALIFCATION that you possess AS A HEADER and then using concrete examples write one or two paragraphs per individual criterion demonstrating in clear and precise detail how they meet the qualifications required. For example, describe the kind of position(s) occupied and provide a precise description of the tasks performed for each position. The covering letter will be used as the primary tool in the screening process and the résumé will only be used to substantiate the information provided. Please note that point form, “copy and paste" from your resume and comments such “refer to my attached resume” will NOT be accepted. Failure to provide this information in the requested format WILL result in your application being rejected.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established from this process which may be used to staff similar positions within the Department of Justice with various tenures, linguistic profiles (bilingual imperative only - code P) and condition of employments, which may vary according to the position to be staffed.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION / IS-02 & IS-03:
• ED1 - Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field related to the duties of the position OR a combination of education, training and/or related experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE / IS-02:
• EX1 - Experience in writing, editing, and proofreading French AND/OR English texts.

EXPERIENCE / IS-03:
• EX1 - Significant* experience in writing, editing, proofreading and providing quality control of English written materials.
• EX2 - Recent** experience providing editorial advice to clients.

* Significant: Is normally acquired through experience handling a large volume of written materials over approximately 2 years.
** Recent: Within the last three years of work.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE / IS-02 & IS-03 :
• AEX1 - Experience working with document management software (for example CIMS or CCM Mercury).

IS-03 only :
• AEX2 - Recent* experience proofreading and editing materials destined for senior management (Director General, Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister, Minister, CEO, vice-president, president).

*Recent: Within the last three years of work.

Bilingual - Imperative
The pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff positions with various linguistic profile such as : Bilingual imperative PPB/BBB , Bilingual imperative PPC/CCC, Bilingual imperative BBB/PPB, Bilingual imperative CCC/PPC.

Note: The IS-02 positions require a Technical or Specialized Language Skills – Code P in French and/or English, which may vary according to the position to be staffed. The IS-03 positions require a Technical or Specialized Language Skills – Code P in English.

Information on language requirements

KNOWLEDGE / IS-02 & IS-03 :
• K1 - Knowledge of the mandate of the Department of Justice Canada.

IS-02 only
• K2 - Knowledge of the rules of grammar, syntax, punctuation and principles of French AND/OR English* plain language .

IS-03 only
• K3 - Knowledge of the rules of grammar, syntax, punctuation and principles of English plain language.

Note for IS-02:

* Candidates must meet the experience criteria (EX1) and obtain the required pass mark for the knowledge (K2) in the language requiring a “Technical or Specialized Language Skills – Code P” in the linguistic profile of the position. For example, the candidate must have experience in French and knowledge of French plain language for a position with a French “Technical or Specialized Language Skills – Code P” linguistic profile (i.e.: CCC/PPC).

ABILITIES / IS-02 & IS-03 :
