Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff two indeterminate (permanent) position. Meanwhile, a pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff future vacancies on a term or indeterminate basis.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of secondary school education or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification:

Fire Fighter NFPA 1001 Level 1 and 2;
Fire Inspector NFPA 1031 Level 1 or Fire Protection Engineering Technician;
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) qualification or appropriately endorsed equivalent;
Class 3 BC driver's license (or other provincial equivalent) with air brake endorsement.

Note: NFPA qualifications must be IFSAC/Pro-board accredited.

Experience with building inspections;
Experience in public speaking or classroom presentations;
Experience with sprinkler systems;
Experience with kitchen suppression systems;
Experience with clean agent suppression systems.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Possession of a current Class 3 BC driver's license (or other provincial equivalent) with air brake endorsement.
Must be able to provide current driver's abstract before appointment.
Must be able to obtain and retain a Department of National Defense Drivers Licence (DND 404)
Must meet and maintain the medical requirements of Health Canada in accordance with the Treasury Board Guidelines.
Must attend applicable trade training as elected and scheduled by the employer.
Participate in operational training as required and remain current to support firefighting personnel. Able to participate in fire fighters physical fitness and maintenance programs.
Must be willing and able to work overtime and on weekends as required.
Must be willing and able to travel as required.
