Natural Resources Canada has a unit that provides “A la Carte” services to managers who have a need for assistance with their staffing process. Services provided by the “A la Carte” unit could include: drafting Statement of Merit Criteria, drafting assessment tools (interview questions, written exams, reference check questionnaire), correcting exams, participating as a board member on interviews, and performing reference checks. The Staffing/Recruitment Officer works closely with the Human Resources Advisor during the staffing process to ensure proper adherence to Staffing legislation, policies and directives and relies on the Advisor’s experience and assistance on any staffing issue that may arise during the process. Natural Resources Canada is a science-based department. As such, several of the staffing processes are of a scientific nature (i.e. research scientists (SE-RES), physical scientists (PC), engineers (EN-ENG), technologists (EG, GT), biologists (BI), surveyors (EN-SUR), explosives experts (SG-SRE), electricians (EL) and forestry officers (FO)). The department also staffs/recruits policy, program and functional specialists as well as administrative and general trades staff.
NOTE: Casual appointments are excluded from the provisions of the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA). This means casual appointments will not be eligible to apply to internal appointment processes. In addition, the PSEA specifies that the number of days worked as a casual worker cannot exceed 90 days in a calendar year within the same department.

Degree from a recognized university or successful completion of secondary school coupled with post-secondary courses in a relevant field or relevant experience.
Recent* and significant** experience in delivering staffing/recruitment services.
Recent* experience in developing assessment material and/or reviewing and providing recommendations to managers on assessment material.
Recent* experience working in a client-service and/or human resources environment and/or as a manager with staffing/recruitment authority.
Recent* experience in performing administrative duties related to selection processes (for example but not exclusively, performing logistical duties, preparing selection documents, reserving boardrooms, preparing assessment folders, etc.).
* Recent is defined as experience obtained within the last 3-5 years.
** Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of activities related to staffing/recruitment.
Bilingual - Imperative (CBC/CBC)
