Duties

Evaluate, interpret, and manipulate, small to large datasets within the R programming language
Building enhancements to the various R packages being developed by CFS scientists (including SpaDES [spades.predictiveecology.org], NetLogoR and others). Mitigate known issues from open source software (compiling, testing, integration testing and deployment). Develop enhancement to existing in-house developed software. Development of new applications and software packages in R

Intent of the process

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada at the CS-02 group and level with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative), language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual) and profiles (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability Status, Secret), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology or Computer Science/Software Engineering degree from a post-secondary educational program or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Degree equivalency

Experience developing and maintaining large software projects.
Experience developing packages in R.

C++ integration in R using `Rcpp`.
Knowledge of git version control software and GitHub.com.

Ability to program in general purpose languages including and wrapped for use in R: C, C++, C#, Java, Javascript.

Ability to communicate effectively in English in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively in English orally.
