Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) is looking to hire up to two conservators specialized in archaeological conservation of material from Canadian sites. This is a rare opportunity to join a dynamic team and work on some of the most significant finds in Canada, to carry out research and develop new treatments in collaboration with conservator and scientist colleagues nationally and internationally.
The immediate need is to staff one position permanently and the other is anticipatory. A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates resulting from this selection process may be created and may be used to fill the same or similar positions with various linguistic profiles and language requirements (such as English or French essential, bilingual imperative level - BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC or CCC/CCC) and various security requirements (reliability, secret) within the department of Canadian Heritage.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a Master's degree in conservation from a *recognized post-secondary institution or a successful completion of a two (2) year post-secondary educational program in conservation and **equivalent experience.
*A "recognized" post-secondary institution is one that has provincial or territorial degree/diploma-granting status, or a university/college outside of Canada of which the programs/degrees are accepted by a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
**Equivalent experience - In addition to the successful completion of a two (2) year post-secondary educational program in conservation, candidates must have the equivalent to two (2) years of valid experience in conservation for each year of Master's degree in conservation that the candidate does not have.
The applicant must have specialized** training in the conservation of organic and inorganic archaeological material.
** Specialized at this level is defined as having completed courses and workshops on the conservation of organic and inorganic archaeological material.

EXPERIENCE
Recent*** and extensive**** experience in treatment of archaeological material, including development of techniques and methodologies for the conservation of archaeological material.
*** Recent is defined as in the last five (5) years.
****Extensive at this level is defined as having five (5) years or more experience in the conservation of archaeological material .
Experience in planning own archaeological conservation treatment work projects (Project Management).
Experience in writing and publishing specialized professional papers, articles or reports and giving conference presentations.
Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB)

Information on language requirements
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the science and technology of organic and inorganic objects found in Canadian archaeological sites and their properties.
Knowledge of the techniques and practices of assessing the condition and conservation needs of organic and inorganic archaeological material (wet, waterlogged or dry). Includes knowledge of how to carry out and interpret diagnostic tests to assess the condition of objects and the effectiveness or suitability of treatments.
Knowledge of conservation principles, methodologies and approaches to the conservation treatment and preservation of organic and inorganic archaeological material (wet, waterlogged or dry)
Technical and ethical knowledge of conservation issues relating to the conservation of archaeological material (wet, waterlogged or dry).
Knowledge of preventive conservation pertaining to organic and inorganic archaeological material.
ABILITIES
Ability to plan and execute complex archaeological conservation treatment projects
Ability to engage in critical and conceptual thinking
