Duties

Analysts contribute in a wide variety of challenging and interesting areas. They conduct policy and program analyses, perform research, and provide recommendations on priority public policy issues. Analysts can experience a variety of paths as they develop their skills and their careers, including specializing in a particular area of Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat expertise and/or being exposed a broad range of government business.

The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) is a central agency located in the National Capital Region. It ranks among Canada’s Top 100 Employers and has a reputation for excellence. It provides advice and makes recommendations to the Treasury Board committee of ministers on how the government spends money on programs and services, how it regulates and how it is managed. The Secretariat helps ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and effectively.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates resulting from this process will be created and used to fill positions with various linguistic profiles and/or various tenures.

The qualifications required may differ from one position to another. Our staffing process allows hiring managers to identify their individual needs for the position they are looking to fill. One or more of the asset qualifications may be used to identify candidates who are a good potential fit for a particular position.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

a) Degree

Applicants must have, or will have completed by December 31, 2018, a Master's degree from a recognized university in one of the following fields:
- Public policy/administration
- Economics
- International relations/studies
- Business administration

AND

b) Specialization in economics and public policy
University coursework must include the equivalent of at least one full-year undergraduate or graduate courses in economics (or two half-year courses), and one half-year course in public policy or public administration by the time of graduation.

AND

c) Academic excellence

Applicants must have obtained a 75 per cent or equivalent grade point average (GPA) for their last completed Bachelor's degree.

- Receipt of community recognition through awards, prizes or other public acknowledgement for non-academic, non-professional achievement or contribution.

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance - This factor is not used at the screening stage. The hiring organization is responsible for the security clearance process. Candidates must meet and maintain the above condition of employment throughout their employment.

Please note that the TBS Recruitment Program is highly competitive and only a limited number of candidates with strong results will be invited to participate in a written exam.

Candidates will need to provide their transcripts before appointment as well as proof of education.
