Testing sessions and interviews will take place in the cities of Vancouver, Toronto, Gatineau, Montreal and Halifax on the following dates:

Cognitive Ability Test: October 30, 2017 to November 10, 2017.
Interviews and written tests: January 2018

Applicants residing outside the mentioned cities will be presented with alternatives.

The only major reasons accepted for a test / interview deferral request are: family death, serious illness, planned trip (with expenses incurred before the start date of the announcement), religious grounds, examination or laboratory for one University course at the same time.

Duties

As a trainee, you will be a link in the Agency’s chain of activities. To this end, your contribution will consist to work on one or several specific components of space hardware. You will:
- Support the preparation of internal reviews for projects.
- Conduct experiments and analyses in accordance with guidelines provided by senior engineers.
- Resolve individual issues related to technology integration and modification of space systems in support of engineering projects.
- Provide support to senior engineers in technical activities, testing, experiments and studies on processes, systems and equipment.
- Prepare reports of specific results of experiments, trials and studies and provide preliminary interpretations.

Intent of the process

This appointment process is part of an integrated approach to planning and succession management in the field of space engineering within the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).

This appointment process will be used to fill entry positions for ENG-02 engineers as part of a 2-year development program. Upon commencement of employment, the selected candidates will participate in an on-the-job professional development program at the CSA Headquarters in St-Hubert, Quebec. The objectives of the development program are: (1) to strengthen participants' knowledge and skills in space science and technology; and (2) prepare them for possible senior positions at the ENG-03 level within the CSA.

Persons from outside the Public Service recruited to participate in an apprenticeship program and appointed for a period of more than one year are subject to a probationary period corresponding to the duration of the apprenticeship, 24 months in this case, excluding any period of leave without pay, full-time language training or vacation with pay exceeding thirty consecutive days, and any period not worked for seasonal employees.

EDUCATION:

Completion by May 2018 of a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in an engineering discipline related to the position.

OR

Profile reserved to Ph.D. students:
A bachelor's degree from a recognized university in an engineering discipline related to the position AND completion by May 2018 of a Ph.D. from a recognized university in an engineering or science discipline related to the position.

*The applicant with an equivalency must also be eligible to register with a professional engineer organization in Canada as a trainee or junior engineer.

Note: Most ENG-03 positions have a BBB / BBB language profile. For this reason, ENG-02 employees will be released a few hours a week to study their second official language to obtain the BBB level.

Completion by May 2018 of a graduate degree from a recognized university other than a Ph.D in a scientific or technical field applicable to engineering or management.

Completion by May 2018 of a doctorate from a recognized university in a scientific or technical field applicable to engineering.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCES:

A minimum of three (3) months experience in the space industry or in a space agency as a student in engineering or as an engineer.

A minimum of eight (8) months involvement in a university project in collaboration with a space organization or agency.
