STREAMS:
A. POLICY DEVELOPMENT: Development of policy frameworks, tools, legislation and regulatory as well as the provision of analysis/options; provision of policy advice and legislative initiatives.
B. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT: Development and integration of departmental policy, programs, strategies, approaches and processes to the transportation portfolio for senior management and/or external stakeholders.
C. REGULATORY DESIGN/ SAFETY AND SECURITY: Leadership, governance and oversight of the continuous development of regulatory process, and the management, control, promulgation and publication of regulations and standards for management, employees, Cabinet committees and the regulated community, as well as research and analysis that will continue to contribute to a safe and secure transportation system.
D. RESEARCH/ANALYSIS: Planning and management of economic, statistical and risk studies; data analysis and reporting; conducting of research and studies for internal and external stakeholders.
These positions will interest self-motivated individuals wishing to work in a dynamic team environment, seeking to make a contribution to policy and regulatory development at Transport Canada.
The employee will participate in various activities related to issues affecting the transportation sector. Responsibilities may include: conducting analytical and research work; monitoring and reporting on issues nationally and internationally; identifying and analyzing trends; developing strategies, recommendations and solutions to complex challenges; working collaboratively with team members from across the department and across-government, preparing papers, reports, briefing notes, and presentations.

Transport Canada has revitalized their EC Developmental Program (ECDP). Some of these position might be part of the ECDP which is a Professional Development and Apprenticeship Program at Transport Canada. The ECDP aims to build a better and stronger EC talent pool and to maximize the learning, development and mobility opportunities for participants. The Program supports employees in their development up to the EC-05 level.

EDUCATION:
Streams A (Policy Development), B (Program Development), and C (Regulatory Design/ Safety and Security):
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization* in economics, sociology or statistics.
OR
Graduation with a degree from a post-secondary program with acceptable specialization* in social science, statistics, library/archival work or a law-related field.
*Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Stream D (Research/Analysis)
Master’s degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in economics or applied economics or statistics.
EXPERIENCES:
• Experience undertaking research and analyzing social or economic issues and in developing strategies or policy options;
• Experience applying theoretical techniques or research methods.
