Intent of the process

This is an anticipatory selection process.

A qualified pool of candidates resulting from this staffing process will be established and may be used to fill similar positions at Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada and other Federal Departments and Agencies located in the North with various tenures (Specified Period, Indeterminate, Acting, Assignment, Secondment, *Interchange Canada) depending on the position being staffed.

Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement (e.g. Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement) who are found qualified in this staffing process will be appointed ahead of other qualified applicants.

EDUCATION:

The minimum standard is:

A secondary school diploma or employer approved alternatives

EMPLOYER APPROVED ALTERNATIVES:

1. A satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to two years of secondary school; or

2. An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience conducting sampling of water or other related material (i.e. soil, waste, etc.)

• Experience consulting with clients

• Experience in the planning of water study programs

KNOWLEDGE:

• Knowledge of equipment requirements for water sampling

• Knowledge of legislation and regulations related to water resource management in Nunavut

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

A diploma and/or degree in Resource Management or Environmental Sciences from a recognized college and/or university.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience conducting water surveys, impact assessments or compliance inspections

• Experience working in a Northern Environment

• Experience working in a cross-cultural environment as it relates to Inuit Culture and Values

ABILITIES:

• Ability to review reports related to water use, waste-water disposal, water quality analysis, etc., and prepare technical review and comments

• Ability to communicate in lnuktitut

• Ability to work independently without supervision

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:

Aboriginal Peoples: Preference given to persons self-identifying as Beneficiaries under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Availability to work outside regular working hours

• Willingness to travel on small aircraft, helicopters, boats, snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles.
