Work environment

The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers, offering over 70 different types of civilian career opportunities. DND's role is to provide services and support to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in their operations and missions at home and abroad. As a civilian employee, you will be an essential part of the Defence Team. You will work as part of the Defence Team at the Navy base in Esquimalt, BC, primarily working on Canadian Naval ships.

Intent of the process

The inventory will be used to establish a candidate pool to staff current and future vacancies, and may be used for similar positions with various tenures (term, indeterminate, casual), and various security requirements.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
1. Completion of an Electronics Apprentice Program.

OR

2. Graduation from a one or two year Post Secondary program in Electronics theory and a minimum of 2 years’ experience with a proficiency normally associated with an Electronics Journeyperson level.

Degree equivalency

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of digital and analog Electronics theory.
Knowledge of Electronics troubleshooting techniques.

ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to diagnose faults and repair electronic equipment.

Experience working with safety practices and work procedures in an industrial environment.

Experience working at a technical level on Electronics used in Naval Communications systems.

Experience working at a technical level on Electronics used in Naval Sonar systems.

Experience working at a technical level on Electronics used in Naval Electronic Warfare systems.

Willing and able to climb vertically on a mast of a ship to 80 feet.
Willing and able to work in small, cramped spaces.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Candidates must clearly demonstrate in the screening questions how they meet the education and experience factors listed as essential qualifications.
