Intent of the process

ANTICIPATORY PROCESS - A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff positions on an indeterminate, term or an acting basis.

Candidates possessing a 4th Class Engineer certificate will not automatically be screened out of the process for SO-MAO-06 based on occupational certification. Candidates possessing a 3rd Class Engineer certificate will not automatically be screened out of the process for SO-MAO-07/08 based on occupational certification. Candidates meeting all essential qualifications except for occupational certification will be added to a PARTIALLY QUALIFIED POOL. At any time during the validity period of the pool, a candidate in the PARTIALLY QUALIFIED POOL can produce a Valid 3rd or 2nd Class Engineer Motor Ship certificate and will be placed in the FULLY QUALIFIED POOL. Only candidates in the FULLY QUALIFIED POOL are eligible for appointments resulting from this process.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

SO-MAO-06
- Transport Canada Certification of Competency, 3rd Class Engineer Motor Ship with valid STCW Continued Proficiency of Endorsement.

SO-MAO-07, SO-MAO-08
- Transport Canada Certification of Competency, 2nd Class Engineer Motor Ship with valid STCW Continued Proficiency of Endorsement.

Recent experience in one (1) of the following:

- Recent experience as an Engineer Officer on a Coast Guard Class A or Class B vessel for a minimum of 280 operational days, including at least 28 days of refit/drydock/Self Maintenance, within the last 5 years; OR

- Recent experience as an Engineer Officer on a Coast Guard Class C vessel or higher, for a minimum of 168 operational days, including at least 28 days of refit/drydock/Self Maintenance, within the last 5 years; OR

- Recent experience as an Engineer Officer on vessels with a minimum of 575 KW propulsion power, for a minimum of 280 operational days, within the last 5 years, including at least 28 days of refit/drydock/Self Maintenance; OR

- Recent experience in Marine Engineering Shore based positions, with a minimum 480 working days of service, within the last 5 years

- Significant and recent* operational experience as Senior Watchkeeping or Senior Dayworking Engineer on Coast Guard Class A or higher vessel (*Significant and recent experience equates to more than 280 operational days within the last 5 years, including at least 28 days of refit/drydocking/Self Maintenance)

- Significant and recent* operational experience as Senior Watchkeeping or Senior Dayworking Engineer, on a vessel with a minimum of 575 KW propulsion power (*Significant and recent experience equates to more than 280 operational days within the last 5 years, including at least 28 days of refit/drydocking/Self Maintenance)

- Significant and recent* experience in Marine Engineering Shore based positions (*Significant and recent experience equates to more than 480 days within the last 5 years)

- Experience with preventive/predictive maintenance practices and experience with maintenance management programs

- Experience as a Senior Engineering Officer supervising an engine room complement at sea and during refit/maintenance periods

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance

- Valid Health Canada Medical for seagoing personnel.
- Maintain a valid Certificate of Competency
- Requirement to go to sea for prolonged periods of time and in adverse weather conditions.
- Requirement to travel by air, land or by sea.
- Requirement to wear and maintain a uniform, safety footwear, and personal protective equipment to Canadian Coast Guard standards.
- Required to work overtime when required
- Willingness to be deployed within the Atlantic Region.
- Compliance with the CCG Safety Management System and Standards
- Adherence to the Canadian Coast Guard Respiratory Protection Program
- For vessels assigned primarily to Search and Rescue operations, employees must be within 30 minutes response time to the vessel during assigned work period.
- Valid Canadian Passport (for identified positions)

- SO-MAO-06: $33.25 - $36.86 per hour (under review)
- SO-MAO-07: $34.51 - $38.27 per hour (under review)
- SO-MAO-08: $36.31 - $40.26 per hour (under review)
