Performs field activities such as field / seed preparation and planting, spraying, mowing for research field maintenance and scientific purposes. Operates hand and power tools and is responsible for the maintenance of field equipment such as sprayers, plows, cultivators etc. Operates /maintains vehicles and equipment such as one or more of the following: light and heavy trucks, tractors, gators, edgers, end loaders, dump trucks, irrigation equipment, forklifts, backhoes, and mixers. Maintains, adjusts and makes minor repairs to tools and equipment used by self and others. Keeps records of activities and supplies for research or maintenance purposes using a variety of electronic/manual methods. Maintains research materials, such as plants or seedlings, for scientific purposes.
The Kentville Research and Development Centre (KRDC) is one of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s (AAFC) national network of 20 research centres. It is located in Kentville, in western Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley. The centre focuses its research in four key areas: primary production, food safety and quality, environmental stewardship, and germplasm development.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used for similar permanent and temporary employment for the location indicated for this process.

Secondary School diploma or a combination of education, training and/or experience.
Experience in general farming operations.
Experience in the operation and general maintenance of farm machinery, including tractors and sprayers.

Reliability Status security clearance - Valid driver’s license.

Ability and willingness and ability to apply pesticide sprays.
Ability and willingness to work overtime including evenings and weekends.
Ability and willingness to obtain an air brake endorsement (condition 3) and trailer hauling over 4500 Kg (condition 15).
