Duties

The successful candidate in this position will lead outreach, meetings and negotiate agreements with government, Inuit organizations and communities. Monitoring and supporting implementation of comprehensive land claim agreements with Nunavut Inuit, Nunavik Inuit and the Cree of Eeyou Istchee will be your primary focus, in order to enhance implementation of these constitutionally protected documents.

Work environment

Located in Iqaluit, Nunavut, the Nunavut Regional Office of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) is one of the largest federal departments in the Territory. The staff at this office work in collaboration with clients and partners to improve the quality of life of Nunavummiut. The office is responsible for a number of key regulatory activities in Nunavut. Working with INAC in Nunavut offers employees a chance to play an important part of the development of the Territory.

Intent of the process

Preference will be given to Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement (e.g. Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement) who are found qualified in this staffing process.

Please note: The current position to be staffed is on a term basis, until October 2019.

A qualified pool of candidates resulting from this staffing process will be established and may be used to fill similar positions at Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada and other Federal Departments and Agencies in Nunavut with various tenures (Specified Period, Indeterminate, Acting, Assignement, Secondment, *Interchange Canada) depending on the position being staffed.

EDUCATION

• Secondary (High) School Diploma and/or Nunavut Sivuniksavut Program or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

• Experience working and developing partnerships with federal, provincial and/or territorial governments and/or Indigenous organizations.

• Experience working on joint agreements, contracts, strategies or initiatives with other team members/organizations.

EDUCATION

• Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution.

• Experience working in a Northern environment.

• Experience (2+ years) working in a cross-cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit culture and values.

• Experience working in policy development, strategic planning or business planning.

• Experience developing program evaluation frameworks, performance measurement criteria, performance indicators and assessment tools.

ABILITY

• Ability to communicate orally in Inuktut.
