Work environment

The Department of National Defence (DND) is one of the largest federal government employers, offering over 70 different types of civilian career opportunities. Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff one indeterminate position at 41 Health Services Centre in St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu and one indeterminate position at 25 Health Services Centre in Bagotville. Meanwhile, a pool of candidates will be established and may be used to staff positions for term or indeterminate, casual, interim nominations, deployment and/or assignment periods. This pool could be used to fill similar or identical positions within the Canadian Forces Health Service.

At this time, only the candidates for Saint-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu and Bagotville will be assessed. The other candidates will be assessed at a later time.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:

Successful completion of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or expérience

Degree equivalency

Certification:
Successful completion from a recognized Occupational/Environmental credential granting organization in one of the following:

1. Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist (ROHT);

2. Successful completion of CF 6A Preventive Medicine Technician course; with equivalent combination of experience and training.

3. Occupational environmental health technologist;

4. American Conference of Governmental Hygiene Technologist (ACGIHT) or Canadian Equivalent.

Experience:

*Relevant experience in conducting occupational health surveys and walkthrough inspections.

*Relevant experience is defined as having three (3) years’ experience within the last five (5) years.

Experience with Microsoft Office software applications including Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Access.

Knowledge of federal environmental health and occupational health and safety legislation.

Ability to operate, calibrate, test and sample equipment.

Experience with Canadian Armed Forces mission, objectives, roles and organization of the CAF Preventive Medicine Program

Experience with Canadian Armed Forces governing orders, legislation and regulations

Requirement to travel.

Requirement to work overtime on short notice.

Required to perform assigned work tasks in a changing environment.

Capable of conducting occupational inspections and investigations where there is exposure to heights when climbing ladders and scaffolds, toxic chemicals, confined and cramped work spaces, wet and slippery floors, and adverse weather conditions.

Required to carry heavy occupational inspection equipment (up to 50 pounds) from vehicle to inspection site(s) which may vary from 50 metres to 300 metres.

Possession of a valid provincial driver’s license
