The work is being performed in a police detachment environment. This results in occasional exposure to intoxicated, mentally unstable, hostile and potentially violent individuals to victims of crime or relatives of accident victims who may be distraught. The work is performed in an open office environment. It involves tight deadlines, time pressures, frequent interruptions, conflicting priorities and multiple demands from staff, callers and visitors.
Intent to fill 1 indeterminate full-time position, 1 indeterminate part-time position and 1 term full-time position. A pool of qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar term and/or permanent positions.

Successful completion of two years of secondary school OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the position.
Experience with crisis and high stress situations involving the general public
Experience in the provision of advice and assistance to the general public
Experience in the provision of clerical or operational support services
Experience entering, retrieving, manipulating, and producing reports from a computer database
Experience using CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre)
Experience using PROS (Police Reporting and Occurrence System)

*Please note that you will need to provide a current (within the past year) certificate as proof of your typing credentials if you are invited to the exam. Typing tests must be administered by an organization that performs in-person typing tests and provides certification. Online certification will NOT be accepted. It is the responsibility of the candidate to research and find an institution in Winnipeg or your area for testing.

The successful applicant will have to obtain, as a minimum, an RCMP Reliability Status. The candidate must not have a Criminal Record. The process also requires a Security/Reliability Interview, a field investigation in matters of credit/finances, education, employment, references, etc.

External candidates may be eligible for the initial appointment relocation entitlement of up to $5000 if they are not currently a federal public service employee.
Interested persons must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to the position, in a manner determined by the Selection Board. A person may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements or organizational needs. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. Only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.

A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future vacancies, similar positions, for term, permanent and acting, at full or part time hours within the area of selection.
Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and may be extended.
