Education
Graduation with a Master's degree with specialization in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Physics, or some other specialty relevant to the position coupled with acceptable experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
1. Experience working with electronic hardware for microwave radio frequency (RF) applications (e.g., antennas, mixers, power amplifiers, control circuitry);
2. Experience in conducting and reporting on a research project equivalent in scope to a Master’s thesis;
3. Experience in computer-based data analysis, modeling or simulation in microwave RF or electromagnetics.
4. Experience practicing software engineering (e.g., requirements definition, configuration management, bug prioritization and tracking)

Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of high-level programming languages and software development environments;
2. Knowledge of microwave RF system analog and digital components, electromagnetics, and microwave antennas;
3. Knowledge of modeling and simulation tools and techniques to analyze the behaviour of complex microwave RF systems;
4. Knowledge of DSP tools and techniques;
5. Knowledge of experimental methods, including data acquisition and analysis.

1. Ability to independently plan, implement and evaluate a research project, and to employ scientific procedures and techniques
2. Ability to work as a member of a research team and to communicate effectively with people of differing technical backgrounds, as well as the ability to build and maintain effective professional working relationships;

Education
Graduation with a Doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Physics, or some other specialty relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience and Applied Knowledge
1. Experience in having published in peer-reviewed open scientific literature;
2. Experience developing or operating electronic warfare systems, or knowledge in electronic warfare concepts;
3. Experience developing or operating radar systems, or knowledge of radar concepts;
4. Experience developing or using radio communications systems, or knowledge of radio communications principles;
5. Experience using laboratory instrumentation for testing RF equipment and measurement of RF signal parameters;
6. Experience implementing DSP algorithms in software (e.g., for an embedded processor) or hardware (e.g., for a field programmable gate array (FPGA)), or knowledge of DSP algorithms;
7. Experience performing statistical analysis or knowledge of stochastic processes.
8. Experience with the Department of National Defence (DND) or the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

Knowledge
1. Knowledge of electromagnetic wave propagation.

Abilities and Skills
1. Ability to conduct literature searches and perform scientific literature reviews.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Participation in field work. This could include an occasional requirement to work outdoors, in remote locations, on military aircraft, ships or ground vehicles.

- Occasional requirement to work overtime, especially during field work.

Conditions of employment

Security:
Enhanced Reliability. Ability to obtain and retain a Department of National Defence (DND) Top Secret (Level III) security clearance. Note: This is not used at the preselection stage. The department is responsible for the security clearance process.
