To be considered for Research Affiliate Program (RAP) work opportunities, you must meet the following criteria:
Be recognized as having full-time student status by the post-secondary academic institution at which you are currently enrolled (a proof will be required).
Be the minimum age to work in the province or territory where the job is located.
Be enrolled in an academic program that requires research as part of your curriculum.
Student must be willing to start work on September 5, 2017 to December 29, 2017. The student will be expected to work approximately 37.5 hours per week.
Key Activities/Responsibilities of the RAP student:
• Identify, assess and summarize emerging research and policy developments in the area of controlled substances and the non-medical use of drugs
• Research and provide advice to management on stakeholder positions in the area of controlled substances and the non-medical use of drugs
• Research and prepare briefs on other issues of interest for the Office of Drug Policy.
• Attend and participate in some meetings as related to the research and analysis described above (both internal and with government and non-government partners)
The Office of Drug Policy carries out policy analysis and development aimed at informing the Government’s decisions and actions relating to the use of substance abuse, including prescription drug abuse, controlled substances and precursors. It also maintains relationships with provincial/territorial partners and a wide array of stakeholders through various committees and bilateral meetings, and coordinates international activities related to drug control policy and international reporting.
In a high profile, politically sensitive file such as the Opioid Crisis, there is pressure of fast moving developments, the research conducted would need to be flexible and analysis provided may need to be revised to incorporate new directions or findings in the field as they emerge.

Education
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.
Note: Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
The Student must be currently enrolled in a master’s degree program related to health policy research in a recognized post-secondary academic institution with full-time status in one of the following specializations: Health policy research, Public policy, Public administration

Rates of Pay:
Master: $18.91 to $23.78
PhD: $21.84 to $25.94
Each student hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) must meet the security requirements of the position as a condition of employment, and therefore will be asked by the hiring organization to complete security-relevant documents.
Successful completion of both a RAP work assignment and your educational program may lead to a temporary or permanent federal public service position for which you meet the merit criteria and conditions of employment.
