Provides a reference and research service for internal and external clients. Develops and recommends information products and specialized presentations, to market, promote and increase awareness of library products and services. Develops and recommends training material and conducts information/coaching sessions to clients. Researches and recommends the purchase of information resources (e.g. databases, periodicals, books, online or web-based services) for the departmental Library. Develops an up-to-date knowledge of an assigned client group, including current trends and issues in a geographic region and relevant subject area (e.g. trade, foreign policy, international law). Coaching and development on social media tools, e.g. wiki, e-collaboration, blogs.
A pool of qualified candidates will be created and used to staff identical or similar positions at Global Affairs Canada with tenures that may vary according to the positions being staffed (ex. indeterminate, specified period, acting, etc.).

EDUCATION
Graduation from a recognized university with a master's degree in library science or in library and information science
OR
Graduation from a recognized university with a bachelor's degree in library science or in library and information science for which another bachelor's degree was a prerequisite.
EXPERIENCE
STREAM 1 Portfolio Reference Librarian and STREAM 2 Emerging Technologies Librarian
*Recent experience in the provision of reference or research services including searching online databases, and the Internet.
Experience in using commercial on-line services (such as Factiva, Dialog, Special Edition, Lexis-Nexis), and social media tools, such as wikis, blogs, etc.
Experience in the development or delivery of bibliographic instruction or client coaching.
*Recent is defined as acquired within the past 2 years.
STREAM 2 Emerging Technologies Librarian
Experience in web page design
Various language requirements

Knowledge of the principles and practices of library science, particularly reference / research, bibliographic instruction, evaluation criteria and the web.
