EDUCATION
Graduation with a Master’s or Doctorate (Ph.D) degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialisation in clinical, forensic or counselling psychology or in another psychological speciality relevant to the position.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Registration for autonomous practice of psychology by the provincial or territorial registering/licensing body in the province of Ontario

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Significant* experience in the provision of psychological services (including mental health services) to offenders within a correctional environment (institutional or community) or psychiatric hospital setting.

*Significant is normally defined as having at least 3 years of experience.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of ethical principles guiding the professional practice of psychology.
Knowledge of principles and applications of psychological services (including mental health services), such as assessment, treatment, programs and crisis intervention.
Knowledge of the issues and trends affecting the management and delivery of mental health programs.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and Correctional Service Canada policies (e.g. Commissioner’s Directives).

ABILITIES
Ability to plan, organize and direct the provision of mental health services.
Ability to communicate effectively orally.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.

Reliability Status security clearance - Candidates will need to meet security clearance on appointment only. Candidates who do not yet meet this are still encouraged to apply.
