Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill seven (7) positions with various tenures in any of the locations indicated above. A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff similar positions with various language requirements (English Essential or Bilingual Imperative) and profiles (BBB/BBB or CBC/CBC), security requirements and/or tenures (indeterminate, specified period, assignment/secondment, acting appointment and extension of acting appointment), within Environment and Climate Change across Canada.

EDUCATION

ED1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a biological or environmental science.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

EX1. Significant* experience in leading or participating on multi-jurisdictional or multi-agency teams or partnerships with wildlife conservation initiatives.
EX2. Significant* experience leading or coordinating wildlife programs, projects or initiatives involving migratory birds in a freshwater or marine context.
EX3. Experience managing, synthesizing and analyzing data and presenting it to a range of audiences.

*Significant experience refers to the breadth and depth of experience and is defined as a combination of time spent doing the activity, as well as type of work related to the experience criteria. Such experience is normally acquired when having performed the duties over a period of 12 months.

AED1. Graduation with an advanced degree (Master’s, Doctorate) in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

EXPERIENCE

AEX1. Recent** experience in the use of quantitative methods for the analysis of ecological data.
AEX2. Recent** experience in the use of geospatial analysis methods for ecological data.
AEX3. Experience with the design and management of databases.
AEX4. Experience working with the non-governmental sector or indigenous organizations on conservation projects.
AEX5. Experience working in remote locations.
AEX6. Experience planning and implementing field monitoring, survey, or tagging programs related to migratory birds.
AEX7. Experience with modern land claim treaties and processes in Canada.

**Recent experience refers to experience normally acquired within the last three (3) years.

K1. Knowledge of aquatic migratory birds**, including ecology, conservation, and threats.

** Aquatic migratory birds in this context include: Gavidae (loons), Podicipedidae (grebes|), diving ducks (tribe Aythyini) , sea ducks (tribe Mergini), Alcidae (Alcidae (auks, guillemots, murres, and puffins), Hydrobatidae (storm-petrels), Diomedae (albatrosses), Procellariidae (fulmars and shearwaters), Sulidae (gannets), Laridae (gulls and terns), Stercorariidae (jaegers), some members of Scolopacidae (e.g. sandpipers, Phalaropes),Haematopodidae (oystercatchers), Anatidae (ducks, geese and swans), Gruidae (cranes), Rallidae (coots, gallinules and rails), Charadriidae (plovers); Ardeidae (bitterns and herons)

Conditions of employment

Security Clearance: Various (Reliability or Secret depending on the position to be filled)
Pre-employment and ongoing medical clearance.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
Willing and able to travel; this could include travel to remote locations.
Willing and able to travel in boats or small aircraft.
Willing and able to perform fieldwork.
Willing and able to work in adverse environmental conditions.
Willing and able to work irregular hours and on weekends on occasion.
