This position is located in Iqaluit, Pilimmaksaivik (Federal Centre of Excellence for Inuit Employment in Nunavut). Candidates applying from outside of Iqaluit must be willing to relocate to Iqaluit. The salary range for this position is: $80,274 to $86,788 plus applicable allowances (approximately $18,000/year to $32,000/year), as well as vacation travel assistance (approximately $2,000-$3,000 per person (i.e. the employee and eligible dependents, including spouse/common-law partner), twice per year). Rates and conditions subject to change.

For this selection process, applicants will be considered in the following order:

Work environment

Located in Iqaluit, Pilimmaksaivik (Federal Centre of Excellence for Inuit Employment in Nunavut) is a new federal office, established in April of 2016. Pilimmaksaivik was created to support a ‘whole-of-government’ approach (one that works across several federal departments and agencies) to support the Government of Canada build toward a representative public service in Nunavut, including its obligations under Article 23 of the Nunavut Agreement.

As the Cultural and Wellness Officer you will be you will be responsible for coordinating events to promote understanding and awareness of Inuit culture and to support workplace wellbeing for federal employees in Nunavut.

Intent of the process

Please note: This is not currently an indeterminate position. It will be staffed through on a term, secondment, assignment, acting or interchange basis commencing in 2017/18 through until the end of 2017/18 or 2018/19.

A pool of qualified candidates will be established that can be used by Federal departments / agencies in Nunavut for temporary and indeterminate employment.

Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement (e.g. Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement) who are found qualified in this staffing process will be appointed ahead of other qualified applicants.

Applicants will be considered in the following order:
(1) Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement (e.g. Beneficiaries of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement);
(2) If there are no qualified Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement, all other applicants will be considered for these positions.

A secondary/high school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and or/experience.

Degree equivalency

E1 - Experience coordinating and leading meetings that include individuals from internal and/or external partners (or stakeholders).

E2 - Experience in providing advice and recommendations to management (Manager level and above).

E3 - Experience working in a cross-cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit (culture and values) and non-Inuit populations.

Ability to communicate in Inuktut (orally and / or in writing).

Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

Willing and able to work overtime on short notice.

This selection process may be limited to candidates who are Inuit enrolled under the "Nunavut Agreement”. This organizational need can be applied at any step in the selection process. When there are sufficient applicants who are Inuit enrolled under the "Nunavut Agreement", the manager has the discretion to assess and appoint those individuals first and then assess and appoint other candidates into any remaining positions. In other cases, the manager may assess all applicants at the same time and apply the organizational need criteria on a case by case basis when a Nunavut Inuk is found qualified.
