In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

ED1: A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:

OC1: Valid NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I and II certificate from an accredited provider (IFSAC and/or Pro Board).

OC2: Possession of a Valid Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level II, or Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), or First Responder Level III Certificate or equivalent.

OC3: Candidates are required to successfully pass the Firefighter Applicant Physical Fitness Evaluation. Certificates must be dated (obtained) by July 31, 2017 and not be dated longer than 9 months prior to July 31, 2017. The Firefighter Physical Fitness Evaluation is offered at some Universities nearest your location, or be taken at the Department of National Defence Canadian Forces Fire Marshall's Firefighter Pre-Entry Fitness Evaluation conducted by Base Personnel Support Program (PSP) on any Canadian Forces Base.

OC4: Must possess a valid BC Class 3 (or greater) Driver's Licence with no restrictions, with Air Brake Endorsement or provincial/territorial equivalent.

AQ1: Certified Fire Officer Level One Certificate (NFPA 1021).
AQ2: Certificate in Incident Command System (ICS 100).
AQ3: Certified Public Fire Educator Certificate (NFPA 1035).
AQ4: Certified Fire Service Instructor Level I Certificate (FSI, NFPA 1041).
AQ5: High Angle Rope Rescue Operations Level Certificate (NFPA 1006).
AQ6: Certificate in CBRNE Awareness training for first responders.
AQ7: Valid Canadian Red Cross EMR Certificate.
AQ8: Certificate in Marine/Shipboard firefighting for the land based firefighter (NFPA 1005, NFPA1405).

K6: Knowledge of Tactical Ventilation.
K7: Knowledge of Firefighter Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
K8: Knowledge of Emergency Medical Care.

COMPETENCIES:

ABILITIES:

A1: Ability to function at Extreme Heights.
A2: Ability to don and properly Activate Self Contained Breathing apparatus (SCBA).

A4: Ability to make and break Firefighting Hose couplings.

EXPERIENCE:

AEX1: Experience as a Firefighter in a Career / Volunteer / Paid on Call Fire Department.
AEX2: Experience in providing Emergency Medical Care as a Fire Department First Responder or as an Ambulance Service Paramedic.

ORGANIZATIONAL NEED:
In support of achieving a diversified work force consideration may be given candidates self-identifying as belonging to one of the following employment equity groups: Aboriginal Peoples, Visible Minorities, and Women.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

OR1: Hours of work will include evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
OR2: Hours of work are shifts of 24 hrs in length.
OR3: May be requested to work overtime to meet operational requirements.
OR4: Will be designated an Emergency Worker under Atomic Energy Canada Guidelines.
OR5: Required to work shift work (42 hrs per week).
OR6: Willing and able to work in a 911 dispatcher centre.

Conditions of employment

• Reliability Status.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Emergency Medical Responder (EMR).
• Current and valid five year history Drivers Licence Abstract, with no discrepancies that would preclude the Employee from performing their duties as a Firefighter.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Military Driver’s Licence (DND 404).
• Must meet the medical requirements of Health Canada in accordance with Treasury Board Guidelines.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Candidates must clearly demonstrate in the screening questions how they meet the education and experience factors listed as essential qualifications. The screening board cannot make assumptions about your experience. It is not enough to simply state that you have the required qualifications, or list your current responsibilities. An effective approach would be to write one or two paragraphs with specific examples on how you meet the required experience. Failing to do so will result in your application being rejected. The resume may constitute a secondary source to validate the experience factors described in the screening questions. Applicants WILL NOT be solicited for incomplete or possible missing information.
