The Cabinet and Parliamentary Affairs Unit supports the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada in her Cabinet decision-making process as well as her legislative and parliamentary responsibilities by providing timely comprehensive briefing materials and strategic advice and expertise to the Minister, the Deputy Minister, the Department of Justice as well as to the Privy Council Office, Central Agencies, Departmental Legal Services Units and other departments of the Government.
The successful candidate will work on a number of high-profile initiatives, often dealing with sensitive and complex issues with tight deadlines. A keen sense of judgment and time management skills will be necessary in order to ensure all issues are managed in a timely manner.
Initially, the need is to staff an indeterminate position in the Cabinet and Parliamentary Affairs Unit with a linguistic profile of bilingual imperative CCC/CCC. A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may be established from this process which may be used to staff similar positions within the Department of Justice with various tenures (such as: indeterminate, acting/acting extension, specified period, assignment/secondment, deployment, etc.), various linguistic profiles (bilingual imperative only) and various condition of employments, which may vary according to the position to be staffed.

EDUCATION:
ED - Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics. The specialization can be acquired through an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
NOTE: Candidates must always have a university degree. The courses for the specialization do not necessarily have to be part of a degree program in the required specialization.
EXPERIENCE:
EX1 - Experience in providing strategic advice to senior officials*.
EX2 - Experience in writing, reviewing and coordinating briefing materials seeking direction and/or providing recommendations.
* Senior officials is defined as Director and above.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
AEX1 - Experience in dealing directly with Central Agencies.
AEX2 – Experience (approximately 2 years) working in a Cabinet and/or parliamentary affairs section
AEX3 - Experience in dealing with ministerial exempt staff.
AEX4 - Experience working in a Deputy Minister’s Office.
AEX5 - Experience writing, reviewing or coordinating Memoranda to Cabinet and other documents dealing with sensitive or complex issues.
Bilingual - Imperative
Initially, the need is to staff a bilingual imperative CCC/CCC position. However, a pool of qualified candidates may be used to staffed position with various linguistic profiles (bilingual imperative only).
