Intent of the process

This is an ANTICIPATORY process.

A pool of fully qualified candidates may be established to staff Elementary Teacher Aide positions with various tenures which may vary according to the position being staffed throughout the school year at Six Nations of the Grand River (Ohsweken, Ontario).


VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Applicants must clearly demonstrate IN THEIR COVER LETTER how they meet the education and experience factors listed in the ESSENTIAL and ASSET QUALIFICATIONS. Applicants must use the education/experience factors as a header and then write one or two paragraphs for each demonstrating how they meet each of them with concrete examples. Please note that it is not sufficient to only state that the qualification is met or to provide a listing of current or past responsibilities. Resumes will be used as a secondary source to validate the experience described in the cover letter. You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (See Note 1).

Note:

1.The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
◦A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
◦An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:
a.Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
b.Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the EU classification.

The opportunity to be assessed by at least one of the two employer-approved alternatives must be offered to candidates who have not previously met the secondary school diploma requirement.

Candidates who were appointed or deployed on an indeterminate basis using an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience meet the secondary school requirement for the EU classification only and must be reassessed for entry to other classifications on the basis of this alternative.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Experience working with elementary school (public/private) age children or in a day care setting.

Experience using technology such as (IPADs, Kurzweil) or other assistive devices to facilitate learning in the classroom.

A variety of assessment tools may be used in the assessment of candidates, such as: *written test, practical test, situational exercise, *oral interview, simulation, presentation, role play, work samples, performance appraisals, *reference checks, and/or *assessment board member personal/direct knowledge of candidates' qualifications. Some assessment tools may be administered electronically, others, in-person. (*indicates those tools that will most likely be used in this process.)

Candidates are expected to make a reasonable effort to make themselves available for assessments as scheduled. Rescheduling will only permitted for accommodation measures or for other exceptional/extenuating circumstances, to be determined on a case-by-case basis.
