Work environment

The work is performed in a storage environment with periodical use of an office environment. Requires the use of standard office material and equipment as well as equipment designed to move collection items. The work requires the need to climb ladders and operate moving equipment.

A pool will be created to fill the needs of Library and Archives Canada.

Successful completion of secondary school.

Degree equivalency

Experience handling, organizing and sorting collection items held in an environment similar to a library, museum, records office or an archival centre.
Experience in the use of an automated tracking system.
Experience in using various software such as Outlook, Excel and Word.

Knowledge of care and handling requirements for heritage materials in different formats.
Knowledge of the mandate and priorities of Library and Archives Canada.

Ability to handle, lift and shelve collections material weighing up to 22.8 kg appropriately.
Ability to work accurately, with close attention to detail.
Ability to communicate efficiently in writing.

Successful completion of two years of post-secondary school training with acceptable specialization in library, archival or museum technology.

Degree equivalency

Experience in data capture or data entry.
Experience working with an automated tracking / circulation system for archival material.
Experience with handling and transporting collection material.
Experience in organizing, and maintaining collections; resolving discrepancies and shelving various material and formats.
Experience using power and hand-operated transportation devices, including: pallet movers, book carts, material transporter, art carts and other transportation devices, to safely and efficiently carry out storage and retrieval operations.
Experience with a collection management system such as CMS, MIKAN, AMICUS or TRAKKER.

Candidates for positions in Ottawa and Gatineau must be able to work at any of the Library and Archives Canada's facilities located in the National Capital Region.
Candidates for positions in Ottawa and Gatineau must be willing to travel outside the NRC and work overtime on short notice.
Candidates for positions in Renfrew must be willing to travel outside Renfrew occasionally and work overtime on short notice.
For all positions, candidates must be available to work between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., on a schedule determined by the employer as needed.
For all positions, Candidates must be physically capable of handling, lifting and shelving collections material weighing up to 22.8 kg and of manipulating transportation devices weighing up to 140 kg.
