Intent of the process

This process will be used to staff one indeterminate position in Bagotville. Meanwhile, a pool of candidates will be established and may be used to staff positions for term, casual and/or interim periods. This pool could be used to fill similar or identical positions within the Department of National Defense in Quebec area.

You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
Hold a valid Class 1 or above power-generation-category stationary-engineer certificate of qualification

Hold a valid Class B refrigeration-machinery-category stationary-engineer certificate of qualification.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Recent and significant* experience operating, maintaining and repairing integrated heating plants as well as maintaining and repairing steam systems.
* Five years’ experience in the field within the last 10 years.

Experience in personnel management in the last 5 years

Experience maintaining and repairing various types of appliances running on oil, natural gas and propane

Information on language requirements

Knowledge:
Knowledge of heating installations producing high and low pressure steam and of steam distribution systems.
Knowledge of the laws, regulations and codes governing the operation and maintenance of heating appliances.
Knowledge of the chemicals and processes used to monitor and analyze boiler water.
Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations (WHMIS).
Knowledge of heating systems and appliances running on oil, natural gas and propane.
Basic knowledge of electricity as well as electrical metering instruments.

Abilities:
Ability to solve problems related to operating a heating plant;
Ability to read and work with plans;
Ability to communicate orally;
Ability to communicate in writing;
Ability to supervise staff.

Education:
Hold a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in stationary engine mechanics

Hold a valid Class 111, 121 or 132 Natural Gas certificate

Have extensive knowledge of electricity and control related to boilers.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience or training in one or more of the following fields: welding, electricity, instrumentation and control systems, plumbing, piping or maintenance mechanics

Operational requirements:
Be able to obtain a DND driver’s license (404)
Available to work on rotating shifts 12 hours, 24/7 and work overtime if necessary.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Have a valid class 5 Quebec driver’s licence.
Hold and maintain valid qualification certificates required for the position in which the candidate is appointed.
