PLEASE NOTE: The Electronics Engineering Technologist (Stream B) position is currently under classification review. A pool of qualified candidates will be established in anticipation of this review.
A pool of qualified candidates will be established and used to staff positions with various tenures (indeterminate, term, acting, assignment, deployment, secondment) and may also be used for staffing similar positions at other locations within the Western Region (Victoria BC, Prince Rupert BC, Hay River NWT, Comox BC, Richmond BC and Sidney BC) .

• A secondary school diploma; and
• Graduation with a diploma from a post-secondary institution in electronics engineering technology (Note 1) or an employer–approved alternative*
• The *employer–approved alternative is defined as having completed an electronics engineering technician program followed by five (5) years of on-the-job technical training and experience in repairs and installation of modems, landlines, navigational, communication, radars and/or sonar equipment OR having achieved the Canadian Forces developmental period 3 (DP3) in the field of communication, radar, sonar, or navigational systems.
Note 1: Normally, an acceptable training program in electronics technology involves the completion of two to three years of post-secondary study in this subject.
Streams A and B:
• Recent (Note 2) and significant (Note 3) experience in the installation and maintenance of ship or land-based marine electronic equipment and systems;
• Significant (Note 3) experience planning work involving multi-disciplinary teams
• Experience with handling multiple projects.
• Significant (Note 3) experience with Life Cycle Management of electronic equipment
• Experience advising clients and management on issues regarding the maintenance or installation of electronic equipment and systems.
Stream B: Engineering Technologist
• Significant (Note 3) experience in project management
Note 2: Recent is defined as within the last five years.
Note 3: Significant experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex activities related to this task, which are normally acquired over a period of at least three years.
Streams A and B:
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience working on Canadian Coast Guard marine electronics or land-based communication electronics.
• Successful completion of the Canadian Coast Guard MELDEV (Marine Electronics Development) program.
Stream A: Senior Technologist
• Experience in supervising employees.
• Experience and training in Project Management.
• Experience with financial or human resources management.
Stream B: Engineering Technologist
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized University.
• Certified as a Project Manager (PMBoK certification).
• Experience working in an Engineering design group.
