Work environment

The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) has a unique opportunity for a proven leader to take on a senior role and build on OSFI’s very successful history. As a member of the Executive Committee, the Assistant Superintendent for the Risk Support Sector will be responsible for leading the contributions of OSFI’s risk specialist divisions to the regulation and supervision of financial institutions.

These contributions include:
● Supporting the drafting of OSFI guidance and regulations for financial institutions in areas related to the risk specialities in RSS.
● Supporting OSFI’s risk assessment of financial institutions and resulting intervention plans in areas related to the risk specialities in RSS.
● Providing knowledge transfer to other sectors in OSFI.
● Leading OSFI’s broader efforts to identify and respond to emerging risks in the financial sector.
● Providing oversight of the Common Supervisory Services unit in co-operation with the heads of Deposit-Taking Supervision and Insurance Supervision.

The specialities in the Risk Support Sector include: credit risk, market risk, model risk, operational risk, anti-money laundering and compliance, and corporate governance.

The successful candidate will achieve results by influencing decision-makers within OSFI and the Canadian financial sector using his/her knowledge, judgement and credibility.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION
● A university degree with specialization in finance, accounting, actuarial science, economics, business administration, mathematics, law or other relevant area OR an acceptable combination of education, experience and training, and/or professional designation in a related field (e.g. CPA, FCIA, etc.)

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
● Extensive experience in the financial sector, or in financial sector regulation and supervision, or exceptional record in a related area.
● Proven effectiveness in leading a team of diversified technical specialists.
● Demonstrated effective leadership experience at the executive level.
